What to Expect during the Evaluation Process

"Testing" need not be stressful or intimidating. Knowing as much as possible about both Dr. Alfano and the evaluation process may help you feel more comfortable with the process:

The evaluation consists of:
-
Variable but roughly 4 hours of your time (depending on the referral question/needs), which includes:
-
An interview to obtain information from you and family about your cognitive symptoms, medical history, medications, and other important issues.
-
Face-to-Face Testing, including paper-and-pencil and computer tests to assess your cognitive functioning.
-
Questionnaires to obtain further information about your background and functioning-usually completed in advance of the testing day to reduce face to face time.
-

How can I prepare for my evaluation?
-
You will receive questionnaires from my secure portal site to complete ahead of time.
-
Be sure to get a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast, bring your glasses, wear your hearing aids (with good batteries), and continue to take your prescribed medications as usual.

What can I expect?
-
A written report once tests are scored and all information is obtained/integrated.
-
Dr. Alfano prefers to provide you feedback about your results (not just your doctor) to educate you about your cognitive strengths and weaknesses, diagnosis, and to provide rationale for the recommended treatment in order to improve your daily functioning and enhance quality of life. Dr. Alfano will also answer any questions and discuss any concerns you may have.
